Breast
cancer is a tumor that is originally found in the cells of the breast.
It is most common in women, but can also be found in men as well.
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women, other
than skin cancer. Every year more than 200,000 women are diagnosed
with breast cancer in a country.
Women
who have been diagnosed with breast cancer have a number of treatment
options depending on the stage of cancer. A lumpectomy is the removal
of the tumor without removing the entire breast. This is the choice
of many women, who discover breast cancer in its early stages. Another
option is a mastectomy. This is the removal of the breast and is
a common treatment for elevated stages of the disease. Most treatment
options include follow-up treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation.
There are also several alternative medicine options for post surgery
treatment.

Latest 2005 Breakthrough Breast Cancer Weekend Information
When a breast cancer treatment option is labeled "alternative" that simply means it has not undergone the level of scientific testing as procedures like chemotherapy and radiation. These breast cancer treatment options have not been proven in a medical environment because they are essentially too new to gather sufficient data on their success rates. Radiation and chemotherapy are popular breast cancer treatment options. Many people choose these treatments to compliment surgery. Sometimes people who are in poor health or are older cannot withstand surgery. This is when radiation therapy comes into play. Radiation is the use of high-energy rays to attack cancer cells and prevent them from growing or spreading. Chemotherapy is the injection of breast cancer fighting medicine into the system. Both of these methods have well-known side effects such as nausea, fatigue, and hair loss. There are alternative cancer treatments for breast cancer. These include diet modifications, the introduction of vitamins and antioxidants into the system, and things like spirituality and meditation. Because these methods have not been tested to the degree of other treatment options, you should consult with a doctor before adding them to your breast cancer treatment plan. These are generally programs that are used in addition to medical and surgical treatments. Women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer have several breast cancer treatment options. This decision is based on the severity of your specific case. You must not only consider treatment for the breast area, but also treatment for parts of the body where the cancer cells may have spread. This is a complicated decision that should involve your health care professional, your family members and any members of your community who may have had previous experience with breast cancer. Surgery is the most common type of breast cancer treatment. In fact, most women undergo some type of operation to remove the cancerous tumor from their breast. If you just remove the tumor and surrounding tissue it's called a lumpectomy. Some women opt for a mastectomy, which is the removal of the breast and possibly of lymph nodes. The type of surgery depends on whether the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes, and the stage of your breast cancer.
