Sometimes people who are in poor health or are older cannot withstand surgery. This is when radiation therapy comes into play. Radiation is the use of high-energy rays to attack cancer cells and prevent them from growing or spreading. Chemotherapy is the injection of breast cancer fighting medicine into the system. Both of these methods have well-known side effects such as nausea, fatigue, and hair loss.

When a breast cancer treatment option is labeled "alternative" that simply means it has not undergone the level of scientific testing as procedures like chemotherapy and radiation. These breast cancer treatment options have not been proven in a medical environment because they are essentially too new to gather sufficient data on their success rates.
